A couple of weeks ago, my skin broke out pretty badly. I was kind of confused about it because I feel like I already treat my skin right every single day, but still it happened. Then I was thinking about maybe I did some things I don't realize doing which is bad for my skin. So, I decided to do a little research on myself. I was kind of getting super concious of every sing thing I do and take notes of the habits that I realize bad for my skin.
So, here is the list of my bad beauty habits I didn't realize doing:
1. Touching your face
I probably touch my skin around a million times a day. And those are invisibly filthy and covered in germs. When you're touching your face while your skin is oily, you're actually transferring the germs on your hands to your already dirty face and that can lead to break outs and irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin, like mine. This is, hands down, I think the main reason why I have so many break outs on my skin. It's kind of hard to avoid because you're doing it spontaneously and you don't realize it. But, honestly, try to be more concious and set a reminder in your head whenever you're about to touch your face when your hands aren't clean.
2. Skipping sunscreen/sunblock
I'm quite a lazy girl when it comes to putting on some sunscreen because it literally makes my face looks like bleached, I mean, really, my face looks silver and shiny. But, it is actually bad for your skin because your skin is unguarded from UV ray, especially in tropical countries like where I live. The harmful UV A and B can cause break outs or even worse, skin cancer.
3. Sleeping with make-up on
This one is also a very bad habit that harms your skin, because when you're wearing make-up, especially if you wear foundation, your skin cannot breathe because the foundation kind of clogging your pores. And at night, when you sleep, your skin is regenerating their cells and repairing the old, damaged cells, so this is the best time of the day to treat your skin perfectly. Your skin needs to be released from all the make-up, and you should invest in a very good night cream or moisturiser and let your skin do the job.
4. Eating greasy food and skipping veggies and fruits
Those yummy fried foods obviously make your skin breaks out, especially if you have acne-prone skin because the grease in the food that you eat gets in your skin and literally make your skin produces a lot more excess oil. And if you do eat greasy foods, make sure to balance it with ideal consumption of fruits and vegetables. Try carrot and apple juice, they are known in enhancing your skin health and help chase away those acne.
5. Not changing your pillowcase
Have you ever imagined how many thousands of germs you might have on your pillowcase? In fact, there are tons and tons and tons of germs on that pillow, from the drool (maybe), dust and your dead skin cells. Change your pillowcases every 2 days and wash them with anti-bacterial and anti-irritant soap. Or maybe, if you want something more luxurious, try sleeping on satin pillowcase. Satin pillowcases are so soft and also great for your hair and skin.
6. Not washing your hair regularly (or maybe glasses)
Dirty hair cause acne and break outs. Your hair touches your face all the time, I mean like, DUH! You need to keep your hair clean and wash your hair every 2 days. Don't wash your hair everyday, because it will dry out your scalp and can lead to produces dandruff, which is even worse. And if you wear glasses, always make sure that your glasses are clean because the dirt and excess oil might stick on your glasses, so it is very important to keep your skin clear.
Those are the list, according to my experience. I'm trying to break all of these, but the one with touching my face is really really hard not to do, because again, I didn't realize I was doing it. So, I definitely to work on that more.
To end, I have this nice quote from Helena Rubinstein,
"There are no ugly women, only lazy ones."
